SERIES CHARACTERS

 

JULY HENRY

 

July's world was turned upside down when her mother dropped her off at her Nana's to finish out her senior year. Originally from Denver, getting back is the only thing that drives her. When the dead start interrupting her shift at her Nana's truckstop, she knows things will never be the same.

 

July dreams about breaking free from waiting tables and has a constant companion in the form of a 97-year-old ghost named Ernie.

 

 

RENN HOLLINGSWORTH

 

Renn has a gift most would give anything for--he can communicate with the natural world, but he's not interested in hearing anything they have to say. Renn's never gotten over his mother's violent death and never will without surrendering--to the potential in his abilities and to growing feelings he's developing toward July.

 

 

SKYE MURRELL

 

Skye's powers are as mercurial and unpredictable as he is. One in a long line of powerful shamans, Skye is destined to lead the council someday, assuming he can stay alive long enough to get the job.

 

 

 

SONGAN "COYOTE" MURRELL

 

Coyote is Skye's father and Renn's uncle. When Renn's mother died, Coyote took the boy in and introduced him to the Council of Shamans as soon as he saw hints of the boy's abilities. Coyote's ancestors were all powerful guardians of the Divide, though specific powers seems to have skipped his generation. He acts as enforcer for the Council and makes sure the secret society stays secret.

 

 

 

BILLIE & LEONARD WHALEN

 

Leonard leads the Council and is the group's most powerful shaman. His abilities have yet to be fully tapped and he has begun to look to Skye to act as a leader for the group. Billie, his wife, is also a Council member, though possesses no overt paranormal powers. Billie's the mythology and folklore expert and intends to pass this sacred knowledge on to July, whether or not the Council chooses to recognize her or her abilities.

 

 

 

SILAS YELLOWING

 

A trained healer with powerful calming capabilities and influence, Silas wants a larger role in the Council. He's nearly killed when ancient demons called dzoavits make their way across the Divide into Shades.

 

 

CODY TOWNSEND

 

The only other outsider to ever learn about the Council, Cody is an expert tracker and has no problem taking care of July when Renn is absent. Cody's future isn't entwined with July's, though he doesn't accept that yet and won't fully come into his own abilties until he does.

 

 

ASHA SEVENSTARS

 

A rodeo beauty queen with a proud Cheyenne heritage, Asha grew up dreaming of Renn Hollingsworth. She's not ready to lose him to an outsider and has made it her mission in life to expose July for what she is--not one of them. Asha's a talented tracker--especially when the prey is paranormal. She can find rips in the Divide with nothing but a flashlight and a little bit of silence.

 

 

ADOETTE LEE

 

A Cheyenne elder who raised Asha as her own, Adoette passed on all of her knowledge to her young ward and now wants nothing more than to see Asha grow into her power--and assume her rightful place as one of the Council's elders.
